How to think positive even in the negative situations

By the time you finish reading this article I am sure you will have a most power full tool to keep yourself resourceful and positive. And if you start using it, you control your emotions and the situations to your advantage.

Pretty big claim! Isn’t it? I dare make it because I have been using that tool for a long time and find myself happy about my life.

Eager to know what the tool is?

I am going to revel that to you in a moment. Before I do, let me tell you how I got myself out of clinically depressed to normal just in 11 days using this tool as a major weapon!

Yes! You read it correct. In just 11 days! I am a living example of its power.

In 1998 I was reading the book “Awaken the giant within” by Anthony Robbins. Did I say ‘reading’? Let me correct myself. I was desperately searching for a way to get out of depression with which I have been under medication for the past 8 months.

I hate the idea ‘clinically depressed’! I hate to take those filthy smelling tablets! I hate the fear of stopping the medication abruptly because one of my cousins committed suicide doing it! Can you feel the emotional rut I was into?

So I was searching with one goal in mind. Is there a way to get out of negative thinking which became a habit? Can I use it consistently?

Fortunately I found it!

I have tablets for 11 days. On 11th day, I should meet my psychiatrist and get the new prescription. I thought of giving a trial and test the method for 11 days. If it works, I won’t see my psychiatrist again.

Here is what I did: Tony Robbins says “change your focus to change your experience of life” Agreed! How do you do it? He says “ask a better question” and he explains how asking a question changes our focus and changes our experience of the situation.

Here is the important part of it. He gave specific questions to ask. This is what I have been luring you all this while. Here we go…

1st question: what’s great about this? And

2nd question: How can I use it?

When I asked that first question, as you guessed I got no answer! In fact it sounded so stupid. I asked again. I have got only 11 days to go so I asked again and again. My first answer is ‘I am grateful about the book I am reading” I smiled and asked what else? “Parents”, “the place I live” and on and on…

The secret is in flipping the mind. Once it is done, it just runs in that direction.

What I did next?

Day after day I consciously asked the question “what’s great about this?” for every situation. Little by little my emotions started to change. I was more resourceful and in 7 days, I have decided not to see my psychiatrist any more. By 11th day my medicines were over. I stopped abruptly. For 3 to 4 days I felt some kind of giddiness and uneasiness after that everything was normal.

10 years passed. Now I am alive, enthusiastically typing this to you. Let me confess one thing. I also used some other NLP techniques along with it. Since you are not depressed as I was, this alone will benefit you. Even though I will be writing about them, you need not wait for them to start. You can start using it right away.

What are you waiting for? Start asking “what’s great about?” and then ask “How can I use it?” common… start doing it!
