Note: Ramayana is a mythology which describes about Rama’s (Considered as deity in India) life and victory where the major victory being on Ravana (Antagonist) who kidnaps sita, Rama’s wife.
They say silence is power...
It is..!
Particularly to control other person, it is very powerful. When I squarely look at the person in silence without responding, I find people saying too many irrelevant things to convince/explain or whatever.
This reminds me of an episode from Ramayana...
After great victory over Ravana, Rama, Sita, Lakshmana (first younger brother of rama)& others came back to Ayodhya(Their capital). While getting down the chariot, Lakshmana giggles.
Observe how author describes the interpretations people have...
Sita thought, this person laughed because he thought " If sita listened my words... all this would not have happened..."(He advises her not to come out of house, but she does & get kidnapped)
Bharatha(second younger brother of rama who took the throne instead of rama) thought, " May be he thought, this fellow had enjoyed royal pleasures all this while keeping the deserved at forest & now came to welcome us "
Urmila (wife of Lahshmana) thought, " He may be he is thinking that I was enjoying here while he was struggling in the forest. What a love!!!"
Sugriva(friend of rama who helped to fight ravana for the favor of killing his powerful brother) thought, “This man used my brother to kill his brother & now getting the dignity of King!"
Like this, everybody was thinking or giving their own meaning.
Tempted by curiosity, Rama asked, “Lakshmana why did you laugh that way?"
To that Lakshmana said, “Brother, all these days I was serving you without sleep. But, just now, I dosed for a while. This amazed me! So I laughed at my dose."
What does it got to do to us?
So much!
With silence, you can control the thoughts of others. They rarely get your idea when you are silent.
People rarely judge others by reality. They often judge others by their own standards. See here! Not even one had got him correctly. Not even those who are very close & dear to him. Isn't it? Probably Swami Vivekananda was true when he said, “You see in others what you carry in your own heart." Isn't it?
So what’s the lesson?
First, don’t try to judge when the other person is silent. You will be misguided.
Second, use your silence as a strategic tool to control other person or the situation all together.
This is all for ancient wisdom for now
