Recently I happened to read autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. This person had a great message to the world & he gave it through his autobiography. One of the best things about it is....
Every Day in the morning he used to ask himself a question. This question according to me should have made a significant change in his life. This alone could have made him great. Guess what the question is?
What good shall I do this day?
Great question right?
Did you think this great man had stopped here?
If he did it, he would not have become that great. He used to ask himself another question at the end of the day. By now you should have got the question! That’s right! That is the question
What good have I done today?
You may begin to notice what good this process of daily planning to do good & evaluating that commitment will do to our own lives. Aren't you?
Now how shell you go about it?
First: Have a journal:
Buy a 60 page white book and
a) Start listing all the good things you did so far
b) Write whatever good you can do on a daily basis
Now you know what you can do. Select what you want to do from the list.
Second: Add it in your planner:
I suppose you have the habit of planning your day (If not, start doing it now. Check my article for help). Add the one good thing you have selected in the previous step to your “to do” list and resolve to do it. Start looking for opportunity.
Third: Tell your plan to your friend:
Speaking out your resolution to do good will reinforces the idea and it actually compels you to action. We dread criticism to some degree right? We don’t want to look light before our friends. So you will do it.
Fourth: Write your feedback daily:
You remember Ben Franklin asked himself “What good have I done today?” You need to do the same. Also write how you felt then. Re-live all the good feelings you had then. This will make you want to do it more.
Fifth: Reward yourself occasionally:
By rewarding yourself, you make your habit more consistent and more repetitive. You need not spend too much on this. You can buy your favorite meal. Or you can buy a book if you love reading, etc.
That is it folks. Don’t you think if you do these steps daily, you feel good about yourself and your popularity increases? Believe me friends many good things will happen in your life.
Good day,
